Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is EMDR Therapy?
A: EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy is an evidence-based therapeutic approach designed to help individuals process and heal from trauma and distressing life experiences. During EMDR sessions, clients focus on specific traumatic memories while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation, usually through guided eye movements. This process helps to desensitize the emotional impact of these memories and reprocess them in a way that promotes healing and resolution.
EMDR is beneficial because it targets the root cause of trauma, allowing individuals to reframe and integrate their traumatic experiences into their overall life narrative. This can lead to significant reductions in symptoms of anxiety, depression, and PTSD. By processing these memories, clients can break free from the grip of past trauma, leading to improved mental health, greater emotional stability, and enhanced overall well-being.
